Where would we be without bees?
Most of you have probably seen the adverts for the new film ‘The Happening’ starring Boston Boy Mark Wahlberg. He’s a science teacher who asks his class about the disapperaing bees. Now my original theory of everyone being stung by a giant bee made out of all the bees that had been hiding in a big cave has since been proved wrong but I found this article on the Guardian Newspaper website which makes a very interesting read about what could happen if bees went the way of the French at Euro 2008. Have a read and put your comments on here.

Enterprise Day June 2008
Following from a year 7 lesson from our Inspirational People lessons, Mrs Burlsem and I are going to be running our Enterprise Day activity around the idea of reusable bags. Year 7 have already learnt something about the issue and about Rebecca Hosking who campaigned to get plastic bags banned in her home town of Modbury. Wirksworth in Derbyshire has also moved in this direction and according to BBC news Derbyshire County Council are interested in taking a county wide approach, so do you really need that plastic bag, or could you get a reusable one and do something for the environment?
If you didn’t take part in the lesson you can find the information sheets used by clicking here and downloading them

Sustainable Sex
The Brazilian government has started producing condoms from the Amazon Rainforest using rubber from the trees. Those of you who have seen the film ‘The Burning Season’ will have seen the pratice of rubber tapping used to extract the rubber. The area being used for the rubber is in the Chico Mendes reserve in the state of Acre, named after Chico a famous conservationist.
