Rainforest Weblinks

This is mainly for the GCSE groups and their cross unit task but if you to the weblink below you will find a list of websites that the current year 10s have put together on the rainforest, have a look through them there should be a wide range.  If you see something on there twice let me know the same applies if you see something that shouldn’t be there.

Congo Jones and the Loggers of Doom

His mission…to help a forest community map their land before the loggers arrive

Three years after his first foray (Raiders of the Lost Bark), Congo Jones returns. The game challenges players to map and protect the Congo rainforest by working with local communities living in the forest. Jump logs, climb waterfalls and avoid the chainsaws to help gain legal protection for rainforest peoples and their land.

How many European Countries can you name?

Thanks to Miss Taylor for this one, who in an effort to be cool has taken an interest in Geography.  You get five minutes to name all the countries in Europe (though you do have to spell them correctly)  How many can you get?  What about the countries you didn’t get?  Why do you think that could be?

Year 8 Risky World Homework

Year 8s homework this week is based around using the National Statistics website.  Open the site and in the ‘Find statistics for any area’ section put your postcode.  This will bring up statistics for Erewash as a district.  You should scroll down and select ‘Crime and Safety.’  You should get a page up with 6 links on.  Using these links fill in the sheet you were given with the relavent statistics for Erewash, the East Midlands and England.   You could also choose another postcode outside of Erewash to compare with.

Once you have completed the worksheet you should write about 200 words to describe the level of risk in your local area.

Buy nothing day…

Here’s an interesting idea I came across whilst trawling the internet at ungodly hours.  Will you be buying anything on saturday?  I hope it only applies to shops otherwise there is no way I will be taking part!!
